Abstract

Bobbichthys opercularis n. gen. et n. comb. [Leptolepis opercularis Arratia, Chang, et Chong] and Antofagastaichthys mandibularis n. gen. and sp. are described. The new fishes are from marine Oxfordian deposits of the Cordillera de Domeyko, southeast of Antofagasta, northern Chile. Bobbichthys opercularis is closer to the South American Jurassic teleosts Varasichthys, Protoclupea and Domeykos in the presence of postcleithra 4 and 5, and to Protoclupes, Domeykos and Luisichthys (from Cuba) in the structure of the scales. Antofagastaichthys mandibularis shares several features with Chongichthys, elopiforms and pachyrhizodontoids but it differs from them in characters such as the cranial roof and the specially long and large infraorbital bones. Bobbichthys opercularis and Antofagastaichthys mandibularis have a combination of features which place them as Teleostei incertae sedis.
